Society has been slow to reward farmers for their work, demanding ever lower prices and failing to provide meaningful support for the transition to more sustainable methods. At ruumi, our mission is to provide the tools and know-how to make the carbon credit system work for you.
Step One
Sign-up for the ruumi grazing app. Our app allows you to plan ahead with confidence. It also captures data sets which allow us to create carbon credit certificates of the highest possible quality.
There is no obligation to become a carbon farmer when you use our app. It is free to use, however you use it, for as long as you use it. ruumi is committed to the highest standards of data privacy. We never sell or share your data.
Step Two
Depending on the quality of your soil, the switch to managed grazing can potentially store up to eight times more carbon over a period of decades. With your permission, we will monitor data stored on your app. When the results look promising, someone from ruumi will contact you about the possibility of visiting your farm to take soil samples, create baseline data, and agree a plan of action. The exact details of each plan will vary from farm to farm but will generally involve a mixture of carbon sequestration and avoidance (possibly including improved manure disposal facilities and reduced dependence on chemicals).
Step Three
ruumi will never sell carbon already stored in your land – only new carbon sequestered as a result of measurable improvements in soil quality. Our stress-tested methodology allows us to predict – with a unique degree of accuracy – how much more carbon will be stored in your soil over time. This allows you to forward sell carbon credits based on a five-year prospectus – providing you with transition financing from day one.
Step Four
You receive regular payments over the next five years for the purpose of making the transition to managed grazing. We take complete responsibility for the carbon calculations. To further minimise any individual risk – and encourage the exchange of ideas and best practices – we pool carbon credits among a community of carbon farmers.
Step Five
We stay in touch. Our goal is to make the transition to managed grazing as smooth as possible and we have support systems in place to ensure that any potential issues are identified early. At the conclusion of the agreement (typically five years), we return to take new soil samples, which we use to verify the carbon certificates according to the highest, progressive standards.
Time to get started? We’ll be with you, every step of the way!
